Drivewyze Expands Alberta Weigh Station Bypass Opportunities for All Carriers

EDMONTON, Alberta, July 23, 2020 – Drivewyze has announced commercial availability of expanded carrier enrollment opportunities in the Province of Alberta’s weigh station bypass program.

The province, in partnership with Drivewyze, had been offering trucking companies weigh station bypass services for several years, but enrollment had been limited to members of the Alberta Partners in Compliance (PIC) program. Alberta has now expanded the bypass program eligibility to include all motor carriers that meet designated Alberta Transportation Fitness Rating requirements. Membership in the Alberta PIC program is no longer a requirement to subscribe to the Drivewyze PreClear service in the province. PreClear is offered through select Drivewyze Electronic Logging Device (ELD) partners and through mobile apps that can be downloaded on iOS and Android devices.

This opens up weigh station bypass in the province to all carriers having an audited Alberta Transportation Fitness Rating of Satisfactory or Excellent. Drivewyze PreClear, North America’s largest weigh station bypass service, provides bypass opportunities at all of Alberta’s 57 fixed and mobile inspection sites, allowing for smooth and efficient freight movement throughout the province.

Alberta carriers can be rewarded for their safety ratings with weigh station bypass privileges. A bypass means trucks do not have to enter weigh stations like all other trucks over 4,500 kg. Weigh station bypass saves trucking companies time and money by reducing delays and reducing the fuel that is wasted when a truck pulls in and out of a station. Driver satisfaction also increases because they avoid the lineups and wait times of weigh stations. Weigh stations of all sizes create shipment delays either because of congestion associated with high volumes, like Leduc, Airdrie, Atmore and Whitecourt, or because of limited resources to process vehicles, like smaller weigh stations, which can only accommodate two- to-five trucks at a time. And by giving bypasses to carriers with good safety ratings, weigh station personnel can focus on trucks that may need more scrutiny.

“That’s why bypass is a win-win,” said Brian Heath, president and CEO of Drivewyze. “It helps law enforcement concentrate on trucks that should be inspected, while allowing the safe fleets using PreClear to have an opportunity to bypass. Just one bypass per month more than pays for the service – in time and fuel savings.”

For Alberta carriers travelling into the United States, Drivewyze offers an additional U.S. subscription package, which provides bypasses at more than 750 locations, in 45 states.

As part of the Drivewyze PreClear subscription – both for Alberta-only bypass, or U.S. coverage, carriers can utilize Drivewyze Safety Notifications. This service provides safety notifications for high rollover areas, mountain corridors, and low bridges. In Alberta alone, there are 21 low-bridge alerts. Drivewyze Safety Notifications also provides parking availability in select U.S. states.
